PICNIC & SONGS OF PRAISE - Sunday 25 July 2010
With the sounds of the Farnborough Air Show finale in the background, a group of 20 or so gathered in the churchyard to enjoy an informal picnic in the lovely late afternoon sunshine. After the picnic, everyone moved into the Church for the first of what we hope will become a regular feature of our worship at St Michael's: Songs of Praise. In the weeks leading up to the date, members of the congregation were invited to write down their favourite hymns or worship songs, together with a few words about why they liked that particular song. The resulting list revealed several new songs, as well as some old favourites; all chosen because they evoked memories of marriage, school or loved ones, or because they just liked the tune. The musical accompaniment was shared between organist Alan Winn and Brett Musser on the piano, and all agreed that it had been a great success.
Here are a few photographs of the picnic:

SCARECROW FESTIVAL 2010
The Scarecrow Festival 2010 turned out to be another huge success for St Michaels, breaking even last year's brilliant result! The week had been cold, cloudy and with some rain by Saturday 12 June was perfect for the Scarecrow Festival, as thousands of people enjoyed the festivities on the Village Green. Gruffalo standing proudly at White Hart Corner was visitied by so many before the event, and our thanks are due to the Barker family for giving so much pleasure to everyone. There were 51 scarecrows around The Green, 16 made by people who hadn't made a scarecrow before, and the Dean of Guildford found it very difficult to decide on a winner. Eventually the Fulk Cup was won by Knowl Hill School for Chicken Licken. Prizes, donated by Squire Furneaux Volvo, were also awarded to the Veevers and Suchet families for The Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Pluto by the Rowe family, and Popeye and Olive Oyl by the McCoy Page family. Best Novice Scarecrow, by entrants who hadn't made a scarecrow before, was awarded to Mrs Tiggy Winkle b the Hart family.
So many people worked so very hard to make the day special, and we are grateful to every one of them. THANK YOU!
Local photographer Mike Milner was on hand to take some brilliant photos of the day's events - here is just a small selection:

PET SERVICE
Following the success of last year's very first service to remember the pets we share our lives with, a second Pet Service was held in June. Fortunately there was no threat of rain this year, and the service was held outside. A total of 12 dogs, 2 rabbits (3 if you count Yellow Rabbit!), a Shetland pony and a guinea pig dragged their owners along (or were carried in style) to the service. All of the pets were rewarded with their favourite treats for being so well behaved. Well, mostly! Below are some pictures of the congregation:

CONFIRMATION SERVICE WITH BISHOP CHRISTOPHER - SUNDAY 16 MAY
Once again this year, St Michael's was proud to welcome the Right Reverend Christopher Hill, Lord Bishop of Guildford, who presided at the special Confirmation Service when 11 candidates from Pirbright and 2 from Ripley came to confirm their faith and commit themselves to Christ. After the service, the candidates and their families and friends enjoyed a wonderful spread in the Church Room, including a beautiful cake made especially for the occasion by Cath Searle. Here are some photographs of the event:
