Pirbright Village Duck Fair    Duck

16th June 2018

The Pirbright summer event is back!  Just like the ever popular Scarecrow Festival the Pirbright Village Green will be buzzing with displays, stalls and fun things to do at the Pirbright Village Duck Fair on 16th June and this year the attractions will continue all the way up Church Lane to include the beautiful old village church.

Instead of scarecrows, the theme this year is ducks, so look out for decorated ducks, hook a duck, a duck treasure hunt and ducks large and small popping up everywhere.  Top of the bill will be a display of sheep dogs herding ducks on the village green!

The Pirbright Village DuckFair will be a traditional Country Village Fair, set on and around Pirbright Church and Village Green. With easy parking next to the church, the fun will begin straight away with a spectacular flower festival inside Pirbright’s beautiful Georgian church. After ‘ducking in’ to the church room for Wellie’s cream teas, a duck treasure hunt through the church yard will lead visitors to the village Green, and a wide range of stalls, games, competitions & activities, and lots to eat!  At the centre of all this activity will be the arena, with an all-day programme of entertainments, parades, music & displays.

It will feel much like the hugely popular Pirbright Scarecrow Festival of the past, but the theme this year is ducks and top of the bill will be a fabulous Dog and Duck Show! We have all thrilled to the skill of a shepherd and sheep dog working together, but it takes a special talent to herd ducks.  How quickly can shepherd and dog guide the ducks into their pen, or will the crafty ducks outwit the sheepdog?

What can you expect to find at the Pirbright Village DuckFair?
The attractions will include something for everyone, from traditional fairground games, a bouncy castle and hook-a-duck to an old fashioned fairground organ and display of vintage motor bikes. In the centre arena, as well as the fabulous dogs and ducks, expect the cutest ever Tots and Toddlers ‘On the Farm’ fancy dress parade, a tug-o-war, the ever popular dog show, ballet display and much, much more.  Inside the village hall a wide range of musical talent will be on display, including professional musicians, bands, local choirs and school choirs.

Alongside everyone’s favourite stalls selling crafts, cakes & produce, plants, books & ‘pre-loved’ treasures, plus commercial stalls with quality gifts, clothing, sweets and antiques, local organisations will be able to showcase their activities, giving visitors opportunities to try something new.  A range of catering outlets will make sure no-one goes hungry, with food to suit everyone’s tastes, including barbecues and a Turkish kitchen, salads, sandwiches, donuts, ice creams, cream teas and drinks including a Pimms and Prosecco stall.

The Pirbright Village Duck Fair is a chance for Pirbright & neighbouring communities to get together and have fun.  As well as a great day out, it is an opportunity for everyone to find out more about what’s on locally, and for clubs, societies & organisations to raise awareness and raise funds.  There will be easy parking, a detailed programme for the day and widespread promotional activity in the run up to the event to raise awareness and encourage participation.

What about the ducks? The idea of the ducks is to create a focus for the day and to attract attention & interest leading up to it. Everyone is invited to decorate a duck and two different templates are now be available for those who want them, or you can make your own duck however you like.  Ducks can be as simple or as elaborate as you like (for duck decorating ideas go to https://www.pinterest.co.uk/bfi1961/lyme-regis-duck-competition).   You can use your duck in the weeks running up to the Village Fair to advertise your business, to promote your organisation or just to give everyone a smile – we would like to see Pirbright alive with decorated ducks!  Then bring them down to the Green on Fair Day to create Surrey’s biggest & brightest (and possibly first) Grand Duck Parade.
