PeriCooks: our very own community recipe book

Do you have a favourite family recipe, an easy and delicious treat for parties or picnics, or a brilliant household tip?

PeriCooks needs your contributions to help create a local recipe book which will be both a tribute to our brilliant cooks, and an inspiring collection of ideas to brighten up everyone’s culinary repertoire.  We are also looking for any household tips and ideas for saving money, saving time or solving those minor domestic problems we all experience. At the same time PeriCooks will help to raise much needed funds to maintain St Michael and All Angels Church, a Grade 2 listed building in Pirbright.

A community project

PeriCooks will be a truly community project, including Brookwood and Fox Corner, and we would love to include a recipe from you, your community group, organisation or business.   PeriCooks will celebrate great food and a great community and at the same time it will help to raise much needed funds to maintain our lovely old parish church.

We are looking for recipes in any of these categories

  • Salads
  • Soups and Starters
  • Vegetarian main courses
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Puddings and desserts
  • Cakes and tea time treats
  • Party food, nibbles and canapes
  • Cooking for one or two
  • Quick family meals

The finished book

PeriCooks will be printed on heavy paper, with professional quality photographs and illustrations but it will be very affordable.  All the recipes will be tested and symbols will help readers to see at a glance the level of challenge, with easy recipes for less confident cooks and challenges for the more skilled. Other symbols will highlight vegetarian dishes, those suitable for children to make and suggestions for meals for one or two people.

PeriCooks will be a great project to take part in.  With its unique community flavour we anticipate that the book will sell well throughout the wider community of Pirbright, Brookwood and Fox Corner.  We are not asking for sponsorship, we just want you to be involved and for your organisation to benefit from being represented in PeriCooks.

 Pirbright Parish Church

St Michael and All Angels Church in Pirbright was built in the 1780s but stands on the site of much earlier places of worship going back to the 13th Century.  It is the epitome of a small English country church, with graceful arched windows, a memorial porch, a solid bell tower built of local stone, and set in a beautiful churchyard.  As a listed building it is expensive to maintain and it needs to be brought up to date to meet the needs of a 21st century community.  PeriCooks is a fundraising project to help improve access and facilities at St Michael and All Angels, for Pirbright and neighbouring communities to be able to make more and better use of this lovely building.
